We are now looking for trainees with the interest in Transaction Law or Corporate Law to join our dynamic team of experienced and talented legal colleagues. In Finland, we have over 50 business lawyers who are working in the following practices: private and public transaction law, corporate and commercial law, employment law, data protection, financing and financial services, dispute resolution, real estate, competition, IP, technology and AI, ESG, and energy law. Additionally, we have e.g. tax lawyers as well as a legal managed services -team, which provide technology based legal services.

As a legal trainee, you will assist our lawyers in various assignments e.g. by doing background research, due diligence, preparing documents, drafting agreements, memorandums, and other legal documentation as well as handling communication with the authorities. At EY, besides your core team, you are offered to work flexibly across our Law team’s practice groups based on your interests in the legal field. You will work with colleagues from different disciplines and talented professionals from all over the world as our practice is strongly growing. We are looking for trainees for the following periods:

– April 2025 – September 2025 (Transaction Law)

– September 2025 – March 2026, and

– March – September 2026

However, we are flexible with the exact start date depending on your preferences. Let us know your preference regarding the beginning of the traineeship. The position is based in Helsinki and our hybrid working concept allows also our legal trainees to work partly remotely. The legal trainees in Helsinki work full-time but we are of course flexible when it comes to your studies. What we look for:

• Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing an academic degree in law with at least 180 ECTs
  • Deep interest in business law and motivation to develop as a legal professional
  • Excellent communication skills in both Finnish and English, other languages are considered as an asset
  • Can-do attitude and flexibility
  • Ability to adapt to new challenges as a true team player
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Previous work experience in the legal industry or related field
  • A keen interest in legal technologies that drive automation and digitization of legal operations by combining them to the way legal work is executed on a daily basis.

We are currently looking for an associate trainee with a special interest in public procurement. This position would suit someone who is in the final years of their studies, wishes to gain experience of working in an international environment, and is eager to put their skills into practice. The position will be filled as soon as possible, and the starting date for the trainee period is negotiable.

Our Public Procurement Practice

We have an exceptional Public Procurement Practice, which is part of Hannes Snellman’s IP & Technology Team. Our mandates range from advising contracting authorities on their most complex procurements to offering strategic advice and assisting in negotiations and distressed contractual relationships. We also support suppliers in tendering competitions by outlining strategies, assisting in negotiations, preparing bids, and handling various disputes. In addition, we advise clients on public procurement aspects of large infrastructure or M&A projects and regularly investigate in-house relationships and contract amendments. This variety keeps our work interesting and versatile. We frequently cooperate with other teams within our firm, as there are many angles closely associated with public procurement, such as disputes, technology, competition, and real assets. When you work with us, you get to experience a fun-loving atmosphere while tackling the most demanding public procurement mandates in the market. 

Job Description and Responsibilities

You will be working with a special focus on public procurement assignments alongside experienced lawyers and legal assistants for a fixed period of time. As an associate trainee, you will experience what it would be like to work as a newly qualified associate lawyer at Hannes Snellman, as the work descriptions of the two are quite similar. Your duties will include:

–       drafting, commenting, and reviewing legal documents

–       carrying out research

–       gathering and analysing information

–       dealing with authorities

–       writing news, case summaries, and blog posts

–       using our procurement AI tool

Skills and Requirements

As this is a trainee position, we do not expect you to know everything, but to ensure that you will be able to succeed in your duties, we do require:

–       at least 150 study credits before applying

–       genuine interest in business law with a special focus on public procurement

–       fluency in written and spoken Finnish and English

–       attention to detail

–       ability to take initiative

–       good interpersonal skills
